Windows software for capture & display of pipeline survey data

Engineers at a major research centre in the East Midlands required the development of a WindowsTM application to display, in various graphical representations, data from magnetic surveys of pipelines obtained from pipeline survey vehicles.

The software, written in C++, and using Microsoft Foundation Classes, was also required to recognise and convert between various proprietary file formats used by the client for the representation of the survey data, and to handle the backup and archiving of the data files.

PC based software for smoke detection system

A leading world-wide supplier of fire protection systems required significant enhancements to a Windows application, written in Borland C. The application communicates with laser based smoke detectors, displays their status, reports alarms and provides a graphical representation of smoke level history.

Timestar has also successfully carried out a number of further incremental changes to this package.

Standalone Database Browser

A leading supplier of software for the printed circuit board manufacturing industry required the development of a standalone database browser. This involved the modification of a very large, complex body of C source code, in order to separate out certain database browsing functions and build these into standalone executables, for reasons of improved efficiency.

Timestar carried out the development of both UNIX (Sun workstation) and Windows 95 versions.

PC based software for Fire Alarm monitoring

A leading world-wide supplier of fire protection systems required the development of a DOS based application capable of displaying, and permitting the user to navigate through, a hierarchical series of 'maps' showing the locations of large numbers of fire detection devices in multipanel fire alarm systems. The software also allowed the user to add, edit or delete detection devices, and would react to incoming alarms from detection devices.

Timestar successfully completed the development of this software in C++, and produced two versions, one of which could be compiled under Microsoft and one which could be compiled under Borland.

Operator Control Unit software for rail network supervision

A multinational transport systems company required the development of a DOS based graphical user interface to display a configurable rail network and of a separate executable providing editing facilities to allow the user to create and edit the network layout diagrams.

The software, written in C++, was required to provide various search and query functions for the operator, and to maintain an up to date display of train locations by means of a continuous message passing dialog with a host computer.

Conclusion of the project to the customer's complete satisfaction was achieved, unaffected by a distance of over 400 miles between the client’s and Timestar's premises.
